“Love letter to water” has its origin in the book Elif Shafak There are rivers in the sky. The author of the book weaves together the stories of people who lived in different eras and parts of the world - from ancient Mesopotamia and the shores of the Tigris, to nineteenth-century London on the Thames, to the present day. The drop of water that unites the protagonists of the novel wanders between rivers, rain, snow, human body and tears, becoming a silent witness storing traces of love, birth, violence and loss. Humans are and always will be “warring water” that will never know peace, writes Elif Shafak.
Fragments of the novel There in the Sky Are Rivers will merge in a single stream with fragments of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is one of the oldest surviving literary works of mankind. The two texts are thousands of years apart, but they are united by water, circulating in rivers, clouds and human blood. Water remembers. This is what people forget, writes Elif Shafak. The event will be accompanied by live music.
