Live Literature: Sluza

Lucia, an ambitious scientist, coordinates a prestigious research project. He sets off on a delegation whose goal is to gather plants to develop a groundbreaking drug. However, the heroine's peace is shattered just before leaving because of an unexpected letter. The heroine begins to feel unadaptability and mismatch with the life she has chosen for herself.

At the research site, Lucia meets a mysterious lock operator, whose autonomy and inner strength arouse admiration. The heroine will be faced with a dilemma that will change her life.

We invite you to read excerpts from “Sluza” — a loud, prose debut of the esteemed poet Zu Witkowska (winner of the Krakow Prize for the UNESCO City of Literature 2026). It is a sensual, suspenseful and penetrating tale of generational disappointment, loneliness and the courage to start living on their own terms. As Sylwia Chutnik notes, this is a story about a woman who has to help herself when the title lock refuses to let her through.
