The play “Little” tells the story of a maturing boy. The changes that it undergoes in the body and in the emerging identity fall on the period of political transformation in Poland. On the one hand, the hero experiences a budding individualism and a sense of unlimited possibilities coming from the mythical west, and on the other — the gray Poland of the 90s characterized by Catholic humility.
Faced with these two conflicting narratives, the title character tries not only to answer the question of who he is, but also faces a new role, becoming a man. Without a specific role model, he builds his manhood mostly on messages about what he's not supposed to be. A sense of mismatch with the surrounding reality begins to grow in him. The more he tries to fit in, the more frustrated he feels, which leads to uncontrollable outbursts of anger.
He finds peace in music, specifically in Prodigy's album “Music for the Jilted Generation”, which appeared in Poland in '94 and for many different subcultures turned out to be a space combining the common need for rebellion.
In the play, the creators try to look at this moment in history and its influence on the upbringing of boys, especially emphasizing the mechanisms of shame.
