LYING ABOUT MY MOTHER tells of the first great love of our lives: the love between mother and child. Set in the western German province of the 1980s, in a family in which one topic dominates everything: the body weight of mother Cornelia (Rosalie Thomass). Is this beautiful, idiosyncratic, unpredictable woman too fat? Does she need to lose weight urgently? Yes, she must. Decides her husband Werner (Golo Euler), who is increasingly dominated by the fixed idea that his wife's preponderance is responsible for everything he fails to do: promotion, social advancement, recognition in the village community. Cornelia is exposed to this, day after day, while daughter Ela (Elise Lindner) stands between the chairs and is increasingly infiltrated by her father about what in his eyes is unreasonably fat mother. But what is the truth and who is actually lying to whom?
