The composer Arnold Schönberg loved Brahms' Piano Quartet in g minor. But he intensely hated that the piano often drowned out the violin, viola and cello. The solution was for Schönberg himself to transform the quartet from a chamber musical jewel into a masterpiece for symphony orchestra in a complete rewrite of the score. A work that stands completely on its own two feet in a remarkable fusion of two musical geniuses and a live music experience filled with zest for life and enthusiasm, clearly borne of love.

The DR Symphony Orchestra's chief conductor Fabio Luisi has emerged in recent years as an exquisite Brahms conductor; his performances balance perfectly between head and heart, demonstrating a rare ability to open music's many layers of consciousness.
