Lunchtime Concert Series - Hwa Quartet

In Her Voice, the Hwa Quartet shares string quartet music written by female composers across three centuries.

The concert opens with British composer Elizabeth Maconchy String Quartet No.3, Op.15. Written in a single continuous movement, the work is known for its intense focus, dramatic character, and close musical conversation between all four instruments.

Next, the quartet performs a contemporary miniature by Jin Cho Yearning You Yet, which introduces a quiet, reflective atmosphere with delicate modern textures.

To close the afternoon, the quartet presents 19th-century German composer Emilie Mayer String Quartet in G minor, Op.14. Highly regarded during her lifetime, Mayer’s quartet pairs warm romantic melodies with rich and expressive harmonies.

Join the Hwa Quartet at Smith Square Hall for a lunchtime concert celebrating music that deserves to be heard more often
