Reading of the play “Luther/ von Bora” by Adrian Szafrański
Semi-final play of the 3rd edition of the Tadeusz Różewicz Dramaturgic Award Competition.
The action “Luther/von Bora” begins in the spring of 1523 and ends in the summer of 1525. It tells about the circumstances of the meeting of a monk from the monastery in Nimbschen and a monk from Wittenberg. She's Catherine von Bora, he's Martin Luther. In the background of the unrest of the Reformation, priests negotiate changes in church colors, the approach to matters of faith is discussed and reinterpreted, clandestine smuggling of nuns and blind dates with monks contemplating a change of faith are organized. It is a time when the Pope is not yet very concerned about the accidents in Wittenberg, but the culprit of all the confusion, Martin Luther, who nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church, caused quite a stir and in a short time became very popular, is facing the consequences of his idea.
