Maciej Obara is a Polish saxophonist, composer and improviser characterized by a recognizable phrase and a strong sound. An artist who has consistently developed his own musical language since the beginning of his career. Although he has collaborated with many artists from Japan, the USA and Europe, for years his priority project has been his own quartet, which includes pianist Dominik Vanya, double bass player Ole Morten Vågan and drummer Gard Nilssen. The formation represents a narrow group of European musicians who consciously and uncompromisingly avoid musical literalities, creating their own style.
Frozen Silence is the third ECM release of this Polish-Norwegian quartet, continuing the story with Unloved and Three Crowns, recordings that confirmed the band's position as one of the most strikingly original European bands of the moment.
