Small Form. Great Art

Make a mosaic for DDK with us!

We invite you to a ceramic workshop where we will create something for ourselves and something in common for our community! Each person participating in the workshop will form a ceramic tile with their own hands, which will become part of the common mosaic. The finished work will be suspended in the Club Hall of the DDK “Węglin”. But it doesn't end there! There will also be an opportunity to make a ceramic candlestick or a Christmas ornament for yourself.

The invitation - prepared by Wioletta Stępniak from pjmlublin.pl - can be found on our Facebook page. (The file will open in a new window).

How to prepare?

Bring comfortable clothing that you can get dirty, or a protective apron. Working with clay can dry the skin of the hands, so it is worth taking a hand cream as well.

The workshop will last about 2.5 hours. Coffee, tea and small refreshments will be waiting for you on site.

The candlesticks and ornaments made during the workshop will then be glazed and fired in a ceramic kiln. We will inform their authors personally, by e-mail or by phone about the date and place of receipt of finished works.

The workshop is designed for adults and young people from 12 years of age. It is not necessary to have experience working with clay.

About mosaics

Mosaic for DDK “Węglin” is a social and participatory project. This means that the people involved in its creation have a real influence on the shape of the joint work.

Some of the tiles will be made by children and young people from the Special School and Education Center named after Zofia Sękowska in Lublin, and the rest will be created during workshops for residents. In this way, we will create a collaborative work that brings together different people and experiences.

We want the mosaic to be accessible to the widest possible audience — it will be possible not only to see it, but also to touch it. After the completion of the technical work, including glazing, firing and installation, we will invite all those involved in its creation to a ceremonial unveiling.

Accessibility

The workshop will take place in the Club Room on the ground floor of the building. The front door opens automatically. Nearby there is a quiet place and an accessible toilet.

During the workshop, we will mold the clay with our own hands, which involves touching the material and the possibility of getting your hands and clothes dirty. For some people, this can be uncomfortable sensorically. We provide protective gloves for your hands.

We provide translation into Polish sign language. Live audio description is available upon request. You can also use assistance or make an appointment, that is, to get to know in advance the space where the workshop will take place.

If you have questions about availability or need to establish a form of support, please contact us.

Information about the availability of the building can be read on the WEBSITE (click on the link)
