11.00 a.m.
activities for parents and caregivers with children aged 0—1
host: Karolina Zalewska
The series of oil sketches “History of Civilization in Poland” by Jan Matejko was created after the artist received an honorary doctorate from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1887. In twelve multifaceted scenes, the painter emphasized the importance of Poland for the history of Europe, combining political, social and cultural events. The series opened with a sketch depicting the baptism of Poland (966), and ended with the most important events of the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski (1764—1795). In this case, the painter departed from the traditional formula of historical painting, giving the individual compositions the character of allegory. The understanding of the elaborate scenes was helped by the comments of Matejko himself published in 1889.

MOM, DAD AT THE MUSEUM
Is it possible to reconcile caring for a baby with a visit to the Museum and a moment for yourself? At MNW it is possible! Twice a month, on Fridays at 11.00, we invite art-hungry parents on maternity and paternity leave to classes prepared especially for them. We provide a relaxed atmosphere, sensitivity and openness of the guides and the possibility of entering the gallery with a stroller; the first part of the classes takes place in the permanent galleries or in the temporary exhibition, and the second in the educational room, where you can feed and scroll the children while talking about art. In the educational room there are mats on which you can put the baby, toys and books, as well as a changing table and a bottle warmer.
