For more than a decade, Mama's Broke, the Canadian duo made up of Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria, has created a style that moves across landscapes rather than being linked to one specific place. Their latest album, 'Reunion', is the result of years in almost constant motion where they have brought their boundless folk approach to small clubs, DIY venues and everything in between.

Their music has roots in long days when they played for passers-by and traveled on foot, as well as in the deep wells of folk musical heritage they have drawn from eastern Canada, Appalachia, Ireland and elsewhere. Their sound does not belong to one particular place, but rather moves through them, rooted in the traditions that have shaped it.

That foundation was laid long before stage and studio recordings, in itinerant communities where music served as both currency and connection. The two met each other in a global network of musicians who funded their travels through shared songs and only carried with them what they could while exchanging melodies and stories across the distances. Playing for hours on the street required a repertoire that could retain attention and carry the emotion, and it led them deep into the traditional material and the discipline of close harmony singing. Over time, the songs became a common language, connecting what came before with the music they created together.
