What happens to tradition when we move, meet and make a home somewhere new?
Join Leila Tang and Irene Iasimone, who have both worked internationally as chefs, for a special Sunday supper celebrating the traditions we carry and the influences we gather.
Bringing together flavours, techniques and memories from different places, this shared meal explores how food changes as it travels. Rather than recreating tradition exactly as it was, we’ll celebrate the ways recipes and culinary practices are shaped by migration, friendship, creativity and the places we call home.
Leila and Irene will bring their different experiences and influences into conversation through food, creating a menu that moves between cultures and traditions. From bánh đa with salsa nerano and mulberry leaf bao with sesame grissini, to pork dumplings with prawn bisque, chive and saffron, the menu brings familiar ingredients and techniques together in unexpected ways.
The meal will be served as a multi-course dinner with drinks pairings, with selected courses accompanied by a drink chosen to complement the flavours of the dish.
As we eat together, we’ll reflect on the flavours of our childhoods, the kitchens that have shaped us and the people we have met along the way. What do we keep from the traditions we inherit? What do we change? And what new traditions emerge when different cultures, experiences and people come together?
This workshop is part of Museum of the Home’s ESEA Programme, and is open to everyone. Suitable for ages 18+.
