What does it mean to be a man? What role models are taught to young people — at school, in series, in songs, on social media? And what if they don't find themselves there?
In “MannOhmann,” young people deal with notions of masculinity — loud, quiet, queer, critical and above all pop. Together with Kim, Seitz & Friends, they develop a performance with humor, songs and their own stories. How can not only young men but ALL free themselves from the pressure and social expectations of masculinity? And who feels threatened when masculinity is sensitive, fluid, open and free?
Because even though men continue to set the tone in real life — in politics, tech or media — many of them feel under pressure. From Incels to MGTOWs, reactionary opposition movements are forming around the world that see diversity and equality as an attack on their identity.
“MannOhmann” celebrates the friction between K-pop and patriarchy — and creates space for new perspectives. The artists from the group Kim, Seitz & Friends — Olivia Hyunsin Kim, Jones Seitz in collaboration with Leo G. Alonso — make queer musical theatre and enjoy celebrating the clash with the classical theatre canon.
