Manon

The quintessential French tale of a beautiful young woman who cannot give up either love or luxury, Manon Masseneta portrays one of the most memorable and archetypal female characters in opera. Though the story is firmly rooted in old class and female-male issues, Manon's character itself is timeless and familiar. The opera has enjoyed success since its Parisian premiere in 1884. Its action takes place in and around Paris, and famous sites such as the Church of Saint Sulpicius provide important reference points in the plot. Originally, the opera took place at the beginning of the 18th century, but the current staging takes us to the end of the 19th century, that is, the so-called “Belle Époque”. In the title role is the wonderful Nadine Sierra, and as her loyal cousin we will see the rising star of the opera, the baritone Andrzej Filończyk.
