September 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth.
To celebrate the legacy of one of jazz's most transcendent voices, the Branford Marsalis Quartet and Dianne Reeves will release an album that reinterprets Coltrane's seminal 1963 collaboration with Johnny Hartman (released on Blue Note Records in the fall of 2026), and then embark on a world tour.
Branford Marsalis Quartet
Saxophonist Branford Marsalis is one of the most influential and respected figures in contemporary music. This NEA-honored Jazz Master, three-time Grammy Award winner, Tony and Emmy nominee is equally at ease performing with symphony orchestras as he is playing with members of the Grateful Dead. However, the center of his musical universe remains the Branford Marsalis Quartet.
After more than three decades of activity and minimal line-up changes, this esteemed band is renowned for its uncompromising interpretations of a kaleidoscopic range of both original compositions and classics of jazz and popular music. Following two Grammy-nominated albums — Upward Spiral and The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul — the quartet debuted on Blue Note Records in 2025, releasing Belonging, a full interpretation of Keith Jarrett's 1974 album recorded for ECM.
Dianne Reeves
Five-time Grammy Award winner Dianne Reeves is the most acclaimed contemporary jazz singer. With her virtuosity, improvisational skills, and her unique blend of jazz and R&B, Reeves won the Grammy Award for “Best Vocal Performance in Jazz” for three consecutive albums, the first such achievement in the history of any Grammy vocal category.
Reeves also starred in George Clooney's award-winning film Good Night and Good Luck, for which she received another Grammy statuette. Her latest album Beautiful Life has featured guest appearances from Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway and Esperanza Spalding. The album, produced by Terri Lyne Carrington, also won a Grammy Award.
Reeves also received honorary doctorates from DePaul University, Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School. Like Marsalis, she was honored with a Jazz Master's degree by the National Endowment for the Arts — the highest distinction the United States bestows on jazz artists. Aside from a duet recording with Romero Lubambo scheduled for early 2026, the collaboration with the Branford Marsalis Quartet will be Reeves' first album in twelve years.
Marcin Kydryński about the event:
The world of jazz — more: the world of music was waiting for this meeting. Duet of legends. And a tribute to the giant.
Five-time Grammy winner, one of the greatest singers in the history of jazz, honorary doctorate of many prestigious universities, diva in the full sense of the word - Dianne Reeves.
And next to her is the saxophone genius of many worlds: jazz tradition and modernity, philharmonic classics and popular music — Branford Marsalis.
The year 2026 is the centenary of the birth of one of the most important artists of improvised art, John Coltrane.
To bow to the iconic character, Dianne and Branford enter the studio, and return to the repertoire of one of the most beautiful records in history — a bouquet of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman ballads. The album will be released in autumn 2026 and then the saxophonist quartet will accompany the great Diana on a world tour.
That Branford will also reach for Giant Steps, Naima and, of course, A Love Supreme - more than likely.
Siesta in the Road is proud to announce the only Polish concert of the Tribute to John Coltrane project for those Siestowicz from the South who, for various (only serious, vital) reasons, will not be able to reach the North, at the XVI Siesta Festival in Gdynia.
Sunday, November 8, 2026, NOSPR in Katowice.
The only night like this.
Be there to be able to say years later to the children, grandchildren and prose...: yes, we have been, we have experienced, we remember.
SIESTA on the road
The establishment of SIESTA on the way is a live presentation of artists known from Marcin Kydryński's Sunday shows Pora Siesta and from the bestselling Siesta compilations (published in the 20th edition). The host and artistic director of SIESTA on the way is Marcin Kydryński, radio operator, author and songwriter, record producer and photographer, co-organizer of the Siesta Festival in Gdańsk. As he himself admits: “We started around the world of lovers, in February 2012, and then meet every few months and lead each year to a happy climax at the Siesta Festival on the threshold of May and continue playing until the end of the year. It is hoped that these concerts, like their radio older sister, will be permanently inscribed in the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people. I will be honored to be able to take over the artistic leadership of the initiative and assume the role of host of each of the evenings.”
SIESTA on the road hosted world-famous celebrities such as Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin & Chick Corea and Dianne Reeves. The project also featured: Richard Bona, Ana Moura, Camané, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares, Lura, Mayra Andrade, Tcheka, Elida Almeida, Yami, Nancy Vieira, Lucibela, Márcio Faraco and Dino D'Santiago.
In Siesta, the interpenetration of cultures, the blurring of borders while respecting the traditions of the regions and reconciliation over historical divisions are the most valuable values alongside the very matter of music.
