The Franciszka and Stefan Themerson Cultural and Art Centre in Płock invites you to a unique two-part show combining literature, world-class photography and live ethnic music. Already on November 18, 2026 (Wednesday) at 18:30 there will be an author's evening and premiere concert, which will take the audience on a sensual journey through the endless African savannas.
The first part of the event will be opened by Kamil Rubik's conversation with Marcin Kydryński — a respected radio operator, photographer and wanderer. The meeting will focus on his latest book “Ode” representing a farewell to the continent and the grand finale of the monumental “African Trilogy” (alongside the bestselling “White” and “Dalu”). The conversation will be accompanied by a unique exhibition of photographs never before presented and the opportunity to get a personal entry of the author.
The second part of the evening is an unprecedented concert “At the Crossroads of Cultures”, created specifically for this one event. The stage will bring together outstanding artists from three corners of Africa: Kenyan singer and finalist The Voice of Poland Becky Sangolo, Senegalese multi-instrumentalist from the griot family Ablaye Badji and South African saxophonist and composer Ethan Smith. Subtle, acoustic sounds of bark, djembe, saxophone and vocals will create a mystical bridge between tradition and modernity.
MARCIN KYDRYŃSKI — SIESTA & AFRICAN TRILOGY Author meeting and live music concert
18 November 2026 (Wednesday), 6:30pm Płock Centre for Culture and Art named after Franciszka and Stefan Themerson in Płock
Marcin Kydrynski — radio operator with a cult voice (formerly Trójka, today “Pora Siesta” on Radio Nowy Świat), wanderer, photographer and author of bestsellers — has been bringing Poles closer to world culture for decades. His latest book “Oda” (a moving story about Ethiopia) is the finale of the monumental “African Trilogy” (after “White” and “Dalu”) and is a literary and photographic farewell to the continent.
This unique show combines literature, photography and live ethnic music:
Part I: Author's meeting and photography show. Kamil Rubik's conversation with Marcin Kydryński about Africa, travel and transience. The meeting will be accompanied by an author's slide show with never-before-published photos and an opportunity to get an autograph.
Part II: Concert “At the Crossroads of Cultures”. A unique design created especially for this event. Three virtuosos from different parts of Africa will perform on the stage: Becky Sangolo (Kenya — vocalist, finalist of The Voice of Poland), Ablaye Badji (Senegal — multi-instrumentalist from the griot family) and Ethan Smith (South Africa — saxophonist, musician of The Afronauts).
The originator of the combination of these artistic forces and the leader of the meeting is Kamil Rubik — publicist, polyglot and popularizer of world music.
