What happens when life suddenly no longer meets the expectations you had about it as a child? will. Between melancholy indie folk, sophisticated arrangements and relentlessly honest lyrics, she explores the contradictions of life and finds a surprising amount of beauty even in the darkest moments.

Since her debut album” We Slept at Last “(2015), Marika Hackman has established herself as one of the most independent voices on the British indie scene. Her unmistakably deep voice, her sensitive guitar playing and her often mercilessly personal lyrics form the basis of a sound that has evolved with every album. While “I'm Not Your Man” (2017) took a rougher, guitar-heavy direction with the support of the band The Big Moon, Hackman showed her orchestral and atmospheric side on “Big Sigh” (2024). The musician is much more than a classic singer-songwriter: On her previous releases, she has played a large part of the instruments herself. With “False Dogs,” Hackman is now taking a decisive step further. For the first time, she takes over production, songwriting and arrangements completely herself, creating her most personal sound universe to date. In her own studio in East London, she experimented with acoustic instruments, small drum sets and unusual sound combinations before completing the recordings at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate together with Charlie Andrew and Hackman's wife Polly Mackey aka Art School Girlfriend. The result is a predominantly acoustic album, on which mandolins, piano, harmonium, strings and children's choirs meet. The content is about transience, grief, love and the recognition that a fulfilled life cannot be measured by social expectations.

Especially live, Hackman's songs develop a particular intensity. Her concerts thrive on the alternation between quiet, vulnerable moments and powerful musical outbursts, supported by her distinctive voice and remarkable instrumental versatility. After her 2024 tour of Germany, the British woman returns with an album that sounds even more immediate and personal than its predecessors. For fans, the three shows in March 2027 offer fans the opportunity to experience the complex new pieces up close and, together with Hackman, dive into a musical world in which melancholy and hope are inextricably linked.
