MARILYN MONROE (PLAYS CHEKHOV TONIGHT)

Agnieszka Różańska — actress of Teatr Nowy, invites you to her musical monodrama — an apocryphal about Marilyn Monroe. It's not just a reconstruction of a biography based on the letters and notes of the undisputed pop culture icon. It is also an attempt to add more layers to a myth that has long since become a collective phantasm, filtered by other people's projections: about songs never sung and roles not played. In this version of history, Marilyn is not so much a character as an object of projection: cinema, culture, industry and violence that stands behind the image of the “star”.

Behind the scenes of the theater, Marilyn Monroe is waiting to enter the stage. He's supposed to play Chekhov. But Marilyn's not leaving. The play takes place in suspense between the stage and the backstage, between the legend and the man, between what has been told and what has never had the right to be written down.

Based on A QUARTER OF A CENTURY LATER by Andrzej Lajbork, the SEAGULL by Antoni Chekhov and the documentation of Marilyn Monroe's life.
