About the event

Thirty years ago, she made her debut as a seven-year-old alongside Majka Jezowska. Today Marta Zalewska faces the Wrocław audience alone — with a guitar and a story she tells exclusively in her own voice for the first time. The concert in Wrocław is a solo project that will allow you to stop for a moment and listen to the good word of the artist.

Marta Zalewska is one of the most versatile figures on the Polish music scene. Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and arranger. She is a classical violinist by education. However, instead of closing itself within the framework of serious music, for years it has uncompromisingly combined jazz, rock, theater music, American folk and Slavic sensibilities.

Her compositions sound on the boards of the most important Polish theaters (including the National Old Theater in Krakow or the Rampa Theater in Warsaw). As a producer and arranger, she co-created the album “Neonova” by Julia Pietrucha, and her project dedicated to the band Dżamble was included in the prestigious series “JAZZ.PL” of Polish Radio. The audience in the Culture Zone already had the opportunity to get to know her exuberant energy during a performance with the synthpop duo let's end it alongside Marcin Januszkiewicz. Despite such a rich body of work, Zalewska is constantly looking for the most authentic in music.

In music, I value freedom and naturalness. For years I have been constantly inspired by the musical language of freedom [...] However, I consider the human voice to be the most perfect instrument. I think that the most important thing in music is emotions — and singing is their best transmitter — she said in an interview with the portal Muzykoholicy.

Marta Zalewska began her adventure with the stage at the age of seven, making her vocal debut on Majka Jezowska's album and performing in the Congress Hall in Warsaw. Thirty years later, enriched by hundreds of concerts and performances, she returns to the starting point — to the simplicity of the author's song.

The new album “Simple Stories” is her most personal work. The idea for the album was born very spontaneously. In an interview on Polish Radio's Program 1 in the program “Muzyczna Jedynka”, the artist recalled the moment of dazzling after one of the television performances.

“I feel like a new one is coming, which will be the most personal. Recorded exclusively by me and composed exclusively by me.

The material on the album draws on the spirit of American folk and country from the 60s and 70s — the era that shaped the artist's musical identity. From the raw, crisp guitar sound of the single “Fire”, to the multi-layered arrangement of “Popcorn” using mandolin, banjo and double bass, each song puts the story and lyrics first. As the composer herself emphasizes: Since the text has been created, it is necessary to give the recipient a chance to understand it (Gitarzysta Magazine).

Marta Zalewska appears on the solo stage. Throughout the performance, she builds the narrative completely by herself, interspersing singing with playing various types of guitars, violins and mandolins. The lack of a full band behind your back creates a unique space. Viewers in Wrocław will have the opportunity to see live the artistry of a multi-instrumentalist who can create a rich, organic world of sounds on her own.

Come and engage in a conversation where every word and note has its own little, important place. Let yourself be carried away by the stories that life and music write. This unique concert in Wrocław is a celebration of art that is unpretentious and close to man.
