MARYLA — Teatr Polska 2026 — a performance that raises uncomfortable questions

Is it possible to be part of a big show and at the same time refuse to participate in its script? What exactly does opposition mean when there is a system on the other side that has power, money and millions of viewers?

Anna Razmianiec's “Maryla” is a monodrama inspired by the story of Maria Kwaśniewska, a Polish javelin thrower who won a bronze medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Berlin was supposed to be a perfectly staged spectacle for Nazi Germany. Sports, the monumental setting, the successes of the athletes and the international audience formed the image of the state, which wanted to show the world its strength and “order”. In this carefully planned performance, however, there was room for one gesture that could not be inscribed in the script.

The story of Maria Kwaśniewska shows that opposition does not always look like a great revolution. Sometimes it is quiet, personal and noticeable only in retrospect. And its consequences may turn out to be much greater than could have been assumed at the time it was made.

Before the performance — music workshop “Protest Song”

At 16:30 we invite young people from the age of 14 and adults to an exceptional workshop led by Jakub “Gonzo” Woźniak, composer of the play “Maryla”.

During a 90-minute meeting, participants will create their own song protest — from the idea and text to the rhythm, structure and interpretation. It is not necessary to have musical experience. It is enough to have something to say.
