Maustetytöt is one of the most emblematic ensembles of the contemporary Finnish music scene. The duo formed by sisters Anna and Kaisa Karjalainen consistently builds their position with a unique blend of melancholy, irony and minimalist indie pop that has gained devoted fans far beyond Finland.
The band debuted in 2017 and quickly became one of the most interesting phenomena of the Scandinavian alternative. Their work, balancing between a cool synth-pop sound and an emotional narrative, has earned them recognition from critics and audiences alike. In 2020, the Maustetytöt triumphed at the Finnish Emma-gaala Music Awards, winning statuettes in the categories Band of the Year and Rock of the Year, and in 2023 they were honored with the award in the category Alternative of the Year.
International fame brought the team participation in the film “Falling Leaves” by the legendary Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki. It was there that the song “Syntynyt suruun ja puettu pettymyksin” appeared, which unexpectedly became a huge phenomenon also in Poland. The song gained exceptional popularity among Radio 357 listeners, staying on the Song List for an impressive 100 weeks and reaching the 3rd place on the chart.
