Mayday

One of the best and most played fars in the world. The story of a London bigamist taxi driver who, over the years, manages to cavort seamlessly between two wives who love him. As a result of the accident, John Smith has to spend the night in the hospital. The concerned spouse notifies the police station about the absence of her husband. Worse, at the same time, the second wife of the taxi driver notifies another police station. Two investigations begin, and with each minute the situation becomes more and more complicated. The comicism of plot situations and language makes “Mayday” laugh from the moment of its premiere to audiences around the world.

When the play “Mayday” (the original title “Run of your wife”) entered the Silesian Theater 30 years ago, success and good attendance were expected, but it was not foreseen that the title would be played several hundred times. Not only the audience, but also the actors like this performance, because it releases, as they emphasize, “stage hormones of happiness.” For years, the Katowice show has also been played occasionally on guest stages, even managed to organize an open-air show, where the audience in one evening numbered almost 3000 people. And when it seems that everyone in the area has already seen this iconic farce, even after several times, and there is no one else to play it for, new generations of spectators line up in front of the box office and book tickets.
