On Wednesday, October 14, at the Złotoryjski Ośrodek Kultury, viewers will see the play “Husband and Wife” directed by Michał Zadara, based on the comedy by Aleksander Fredra. The event is part of a program that aims to bring professional theater closer to residents of the entire region.
Fredro all over again. “Husband and Wife” directed by Michał Zadara
With the play “Husband and Wife”, the Polish Theatre in Wrocław will open the 2026/27 season. For the fifth time Michał Zadara reaches out to the work of the Polish comedian, proposing a contemporary interpretation with preservation of the original language.
Written in 1821, the comedy about love, passion and manipulation is transferred by the creators to the modern home. The modern scenography emphasizes the topicality of the story, which, despite more than 200 years, still remains surprisingly close to modern viewers.
“Husband and Wife” has a doubled cast. Nine actors and actresses play five characters, so that during individual performances, viewers can see different configurations of performers. The cast includes, among others, Jolanta Zalewska, Dariusz Bereski, Andrzej Olejnik, Aleksandra Chapko-Klimczak and Ernest Nita.
Theater closer to the inhabitants of Lower Silesia
The show in Złotorya takes place as part of the project “Theater Closer to People. Travels in Lower Silesia”, thanks to which the Polish Theatre in Wrocław reaches towns throughout the region with its repertoire. The initiative facilitates access to professional theatre for residents far from major cultural centres and also creates a space for meeting, dialogue and shared cultural participation.
Theatre should not be an institution to which you have to go far. We want to reach where the audience is, because our task is to create a space for shared experience, conversation and reflection. We believe that an ambitious theatre can be open, close and important to local communities at the same time. That is why we are starting our journey through Lower Silesia — says Dr Michał Zadara, director of the Polish Theatre in Wrocław and director of the play.
Free tickets can be picked up at the secretariat of the Złotoryjski Cultural Center from 8 am to 4 pm. It is also possible to book by phone at 76 878 33 74.
Co-financed from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture — a state special purpose fund.
