All signs in heaven and earth indicate that the end of the world is irrevocably approaching. After fifteenth-century Europe, a plague is raging, the Hanseatic war with Europe is taking a bloody toll, the Turks invaded Constantinople and still not enough, Vlad the Burner burned twenty thousand people in a few days, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake and more victims are constantly being sought.
During one of the witch trials, painter Hugo van der Goes passes away, who is currently treating his “nervous weakness” in a monastery hospital in Bruges. Not long before, his competitor Hans Memling had received an order from a Florentine merchant for a painting with the illustrious title: The Last Judgment. Stuck with illness, Hugo van der Goes saw Memling's painting and... experienced the end of the world. The question of who will be saved and who will be engulfed in hell at the moment of the final trial does not put the inhabitants of fifteenth-century Europe to sleep peacefully, as can be seen in Memling's work.
Agata Duda's stage variation The Gracz around the creation of Gdańsk's most famous painting takes us back to the times of the Middle Ages and raises questions about the power of art, the condition of the artist and human fears that we have been trying to deal with for centuries thanks to art, religion and... war.THERE IS A CATEGORICAL BAN ON RECORDING AND PHOTOGRAPHING THE PERFORMANCE
