The UN Human Rights Commission was founded in 1946 under the influence of recent acts of the National Socialists. Their aim was to create a document on the basis of which future crimes against humanity could be prevented.
Two years later, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Based on the principle of equality for all people, it sets out political, economic, social and cultural rights in 30 articles. Many of them have today found their way into the constitutions of various states.
