Mercedess drapes VEGA in frank lyrics and strong pophooks
With her second album, I'd love to be a star, but I'm tired as hell, Mercedess invites the listener into a vulnerable and sleepless pop universe.
The album depicts a period marked by depression and exhaustion, with the songs functioning as fragments from a splinteringly honest diary. Somewhere between brainrot, burnout and big pophooks, Mercedes's words put on the feeling of constantly having to be on.
The record, which came out on May 15, has already received several laudatory reviews. Soundvenue gave it five stars and wrote:
“It's felt right into the soul of 'the burnout generation' when Danish Mercedess sings about the burnout created by the music industry and our SoMe brainrot world, while she playfully mixes organic and electronic elements in a dark and brave alt-popped universe”.
In Mercedes's audio nudes, a cappella moments, heavy 808s and intimate confessions flow together in songs that quiver between breakdown and self-staging; a sound reminiscent of early Billie Eilish and Lorde.
In 2022, she got her first P3's Inevitable with the single “Obvious”, and since then followed another with the Prisma collaboration “Bangs”. This autumn, the audience can experience the critically acclaimed album live when Mercedess gives free rein to the emotions at Ideal Bar in Copenhagen on 11 November.
