The French singer BARBARA (1930 — 1997) is the great unique case of French chanson, which combines moving emotion and sophisticated thought into a unique musical experience. With her clear, sometimes deep dark voice and her soul-exploring songs, BARBARA is one of the great representatives of post-war French chanson alongside Édith Piaf, Juliette Gréco and Jacques Brel.
With “NACHTBLAU — Chanson für eine Absentende”, Meret Becker and Dietmar Löffler rediscover an artist who, as a French Jew, has worked for reconciliation between Germany and France like hardly any other. Her chanson “Göttingen” is probably the most well-known musical testimony to this.
