Following the success of The Hours at the Metropolitan Opera, Kevin Puts returns with a Pulitzer Prize-winning opera inspired by the real-life events of the 1914 Christmas Armistice. This is a moving tale of humanity in wartime — a monumental, almost cinematic opera with a libretto by Mark Campbell in English, French and German.
Since its release in 2011, the work has enjoyed widespread acclaim, with The Guardian describing it as a “moving, emotional experience.” James Robinson's staging takes viewers to the Western Front during World War I in an evocative way. The cast includes the stars of world opera: soprano Elza van den Heever and tenors Ben Bliss and Rolando Villazón. The orchestra will be conducted by the conductor Dalia Stasevska.
