Fritz Lang's Metropolis — the most iconic German movie — live with @babylon .orchester.berlin
Look at Berlin now also means: watching Metropolis. Live At BABYLON
Let yourself be seduced! It's the twenties. (Scroll Down for English)
In 310 days of shooting, with 36,000 extras and 200,000 costumes and the gigantic budget of five million Reichsmarks for the time — a universal, timeless theme was translated into pictures that has lost none of its fascination to this day. (Deutsche Kinemathek)
Like no other film, METROPOLIS represents the heyday of the German silent film made in Berlin — Babelsberg. Electricity got things moving, made the nights and the asphalt glow. The engine drove the automobile and the aeroplane, and the skyscrapers grew with the elevator. The cinematographer threw the vision or illusion of a future metropolis onto the white walls of the cinema palaces and the people rose from the catacombs and demanded their fair share. A new era was born and is brought to life in old/new splendor on the gold-framed canvas by the Babylon Orchestra Berlin in Babylon built in 1929.
A thrilling journey back in time, a thrilling journey into the future.
A film from the collection of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau Foundation in Wiesbaden
