Do you already know everything about Stanisław Wyspiański, or maybe you are just discovering the secrets of his work? Do you associate pastel portraits of children and “Wedding”? Maybe — walking around Krakow — you come across the traces of the “fourth messenger” in the Franciscan church? Looking at the Wawel, do you realize that the artist saw it differently?

About the event

Do you already know everything about Stanisław Wyspiański, or maybe you are just discovering the secrets of his work? Do you associate pastel portraits of children and “Wedding”? Maybe — walking around Krakow — you come across the traces of the “fourth messenger” in the Franciscan church? Looking at the Wawel, do you realize that the artist saw it differently?

All lovers and future enthusiasts of Stanisław Wyspiański's work are invited to meetings during which we will take a journey into the past. We will recall the most important events from the artist's life, themes and works created for Krakow and glorifying it to this day.

The content of the lecture will consist of three main themes. The first will refer to the past of the Bath Plant in Rymanowe-Zdrój — an environment that Stanisław Wyspiański found here in 1901 and 1903. The next two will be devoted to the backstage of both Ryman curations of the artist, recognized in detail thanks to a thorough analysis of Wyspiański's correspondence and other archival sources, as well as the author's field research in the spa. A lot of space will also be devoted to the literary work of Wyspiański, who, despite the prohibitions of doctors, worked intensively in Rymanow-Zdrój, the result of which is, for example, “Achilleis. Dramatic scenes”, as well as several poems, including two of the most famous: “When I come to leave this world” and “Let no one cry over my grave”.

Tadeusz Łopatkiewicz — ethnographer, doctor of humanities in the field of art sciences, historian, regionalist, author and co-author of books and scientific articles in the field of Carpathian ethnography, inventory and preservation of monuments, history of art and the past of Polish heritage conservation. Co-publisher of Stanisław Tomkowicz's pioneering inventories of monuments and four sketchbooks by Stanisław Wyspiański. Author and co-author of a number of research projects, documentation works and implementations in the field of conservation and protection of monuments, mainly sacred wooden buildings, including several churches on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Secretary of the PIGONIANUM Scientific Publishing House of the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Krosno.
