On Thursday 22 October we invite you to a lecture by Dr. Maciej Szymanowicz entitled Between pictorialism and modernity. Postwar photographic work of Bolesława and Edmund Zdanowski.
Maciej Szymanowicz, PhD, an art historian specializing in the history of photography, is a professor at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the president of the Stefan Wojnecki Scientific Society of Photography in Poznań. His work includes numerous works devoted to the history of photography.
Bolesława (1908-1982) and Edmund (1905-1984) Zdanowski were representatives of the Vilnius School of Photography, who lived and worked in Gdynia since 1945. They were students and later collaborators of the famous Vilnius photographer — Jan Bułhak. In the lecture you will be able to find out what influence this had on their post-war work.
The event accompanies the exhibition Light of Gdynia. Photographs of Bolesława and Edmund Zdanowski 1945-1970 which we present until January 10, 2027.
