MilkTea Presents: A Preview of In Waves

In Los Angeles, AJ (Will Sharpe), a shy teenager who loves skateboarding and drawing, meets Kristen (Stephanie Hsu), a passionate surfer.

They fall in love and imagine a future together, until Kristen faces a sudden illness. Set against the sun-soaked surf culture of southern California and gorgeously brought to life through Phuong Mai Nguyen’s richly coloured animation. In Waves is a deeply personal story adapted from AJ Dungo’s own graphic memoir about the real Kristen.

It's a film about the joy of finding your soulmate, the courage it takes to live fully and the enduring power of love. The opening film of Cannes Critics' Week.

MilkTea and Picturehouse collaborate on EAST OF PUNK is a three-event cinema season developed in response to the BFI’s Rip It Up season. It traces how cultures travel, beginning with punk’s journey from the UK to Japan, and opening out into a multitude of British ESEA youth cultures as they’re lived today.
