Milos Forman evening: Reception, talk and documentary

An entertaining and multifaceted portrait of director Milos Forman (1932-2018) who, with films such as 'Fireman in Fire and Flame' and 'The Love of the Blonde', started his career as part of the Czech new wave. He later came to Hollywood and was Oscar-winning for 'Cuckoo's Nest' and 'Amadeus' and also had great success with 'Hair' and 'The People vs. Larry Flint'.

Through newly discovered archival material and exciting interviews, we follow Forman from the streets of Prague across the red carpet in Cannes to the glamour of Hollywood and family life in the United States. The film is far from a saint portrait, as it also uncovers some of Forman's missteps (according to his own statements) -- both as a director and a private individual.

The film's narrator voice is provided by Petr Forman - one of the director's sons.

Forman's films are often hilarious, but never just comedies. “I don't tell stories in black and white. I tell stories in gray,” he himself said. The Cinematek will unfold from 13 October the entire Miloš Forman feature film work — with the Czechoslovak films in autumn 2026 and the American films in early 2027.
