My Nights in Paradise

In post-war Italy, the fatherless boy Salvatore (nicknamed Toto) befriends the convivial Alfredo (Philippe Noiret), an operator in the local cinema. The tale of the nascent father/son-like relationship between the struggling couple serves partly as an undisguised tribute to the fascinating power of film and partly as a nostalgic journey back to the magical time of growing up. “My Nights in Paradise” charmed both the Cannes Jury Prize and the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film — and continues to hold a warm place in the hearts of film lovers around the world.
