Marta Guśniowska's TEDDY BEAR is a story full of warmth and tenderness about a teddy bear who cannot fall asleep. Forest animals gather around the toddler, telling him how to deal with insomnia. But what to do when neither rocking, nor milk with honey, nor counting sheep does not help? What else could put a teddy bear to sleep? Or maybe... who?

About the event

Marta Guśniowska's TEDDY BEAR is a story full of warmth and tenderness about a teddy bear who cannot fall asleep. Forest animals gather around the toddler, telling him how to deal with insomnia. But what to do when neither rocking, nor milk with honey, nor counting sheep does not help? What else could put a teddy bear to sleep? Or maybe... who?

The intimate performance, played by three actresses, was created for viewers of preschool age, from 3 to 6 years old. MISIACZEK is a nod to classical puppet theater. The performance is played mainly in a puppet plan, in close contact and interaction with the audience. While working on the staging, the creators also drew inspiration from the so-called najnajowy theater (for children younger than three years old) — sensual, based on meeting and common experience.

The forest is more than a place of action in the show. “The forest is our home” - say the characters of TEDDY BEAR and between the lines they tell the viewers how they should behave in the forest and how to care for it. The creators of the show decided to go further: not only to talk from the stage about the protection of natural resources, but also to produce the show in an ecological and sustainable way: the dolls and most of the elements of the scenography were created thanks to upcycling - from fabrics found in the theater's warehouses or second-hand clothes, it was also decided to abandon the printing of the program.

The author MISIACZKA Marta Guśniowska is an award-winning playwright whose plays can be found in the repertoire of almost all Polish puppet theaters. In WTL's repertoire since 2013 there is WĄŻ, one of the favorite performances of little Wrocław residents. Piotr Soroka is a director and choreographer, a student of directing at the Wrocław Academy of Theatre Arts. He is currently associated with the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre as its programme specialist. Description of the performance in simple language The action of the performance takes place in the forest. Little teddy bear can't fall asleep. Friends come to his aid, among them the Magpie and the Fox. Animals offer different ways to deal with insomnia. They tell him to rock in a hammock, drink milk with honey, yawn and count sheep. The show simply teaches children to care about nature and shows how important it is to help others. TEDDY BEAR is a puppet show. On the stage you will see different types of dolls. Three actresses animate them in front of the audience. All objects on the stage are made of soft materials in earth colors. They are shapes that resemble tree trunks and stones. On the floor of the stage lies a fluffy carpet. The actresses are wearing soft brown outfits. This makes the space feel cozy. Subdued music and gentle sound effects build a calm mood.
