About the event

Presented by UCL Malaysian Society

What happens when a group of passionate students set out to create the perfect show about Malaysia, only to discover that everyone has a very different idea of what that means?

Di Sebalik Tirai follows Adam, a determined young director, and his sister Inaya, the producer he convinces to join him, as they take on the challenge of bringing this year’s MNight production to life.

Inspired by their memories of their late Datuk and driven by a desire to celebrate Malaysian culture, the siblings gather a team of writers, dancers, musicians, actors, designers and backstage crew to create something they can all be proud of.

But turning a vision into reality is never simple.

As rehearsals begin, creative differences emerge, departments clash, friendships grow, and the pressure of putting on a production starts to expose tensions beneath the surface. What begins with ambitious ideas quickly becomes a battle between tradition and modernity, individual perspectives and collective identity.

Filled with music, dance, comedy and moments of heartfelt reflection, MNight explores and celebrates Malaysian culture, community, friendship and the messy, meaningful process of creating something together.
