On 12 November, we invite you to the Castle for a meeting with Jakub Żulczyk — one of the most recognizable contemporary Polish writers and screenwriters. The conversation will be an opportunity to look at his latest book, as well as to discuss Poland, literature, language and the surrounding reality.
On October 21, “Pan Darek” was published — the third and at the same time the last novel set in the universe “Blind from the Lights”. This time, the author takes readers back to 1990 to tell the story of the title character and look at the reality that shaped him. It is a story of political transformation, violence, money and a world in which the old rules are losing their power and new ones are just taking shape.
“Mr. Darek” is not just a return to the universe well known to readers. It is also a starting point for a broader conversation about contemporary Poland, literature and language, as well as how to tell about a world that is constantly changing.
Jakub Żulczyk — writer and screenwriter, author of “Blind from the Lights”, “Dog Hill” and “Feedback”, as well as co-creator of the series “Warszawianka” and “Belfer”. Winner of the Warsaw Literary Award and two Polish Orły Film Awards for the best television series. Together with Juliusz Strachota, he hosts the podcast “After Rehab”. His novel “Blind from the Lights” gained immense popularity, reaching sales in Poland in excess of 350 thousand copies.
Gabriel Augustyn — Marketing Manager at Books Factory and Lineary. He began his adventure with literature with a blind, unrequited love for Stephen King. He is an admirer of Cormac McCarthy, Thomas Pynchon, Witold Gombrowicz and Yukio Mishima. Associated with the book market for more than a dozen years. He conducted author talks with, among others, Jakub Małecki, Anna Frajlich, Małgorzata Rejmer, Jerzy Jarniewicz, Mikołaj Grynberg, Maciej Płaza and Maciej Świerkocki. Creator of the Lost in Translation series. He hosted the program Książka na Weekend on Radio Super FM and Studio Kultura — a cooperation of Radio SuperFM and the portal Wszczecinie.pl.
He will explain to you what life is, what it can be, and often suggest what it should be. Your life, the lives of other people, animals and the entire planet, and even the cosmos. The complicated, overwhelming world, told by a writer or writer, becomes tame. The world is too calm, even boring, under the literary pen it sparkles with ambiguity, drags in with hidden depth.
We will show the strengths of contemporary literature. We will strengthen literature in our lives and thoughts with invited outstanding writers, critics and critics of the written word. We will present prose, essay and poetry books, each page of which beats an inspiring power. All in order for literature to become our strong point.
The series inaugurates a meeting with Jakub Żulczyk, whose literary and non-literary words cannot be deprived of their power. We invite you to the Castle on November 12th at 18:00.
