“MY GDYNIA 100" is a feature-length documentary film telling the history of Gdynia from the perspective of its inhabitants. It was created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the granting of city rights to Gdynia and combines the personal memories of Gdynians with the history of the city — from its birth and construction of the port, through the war and post-war reconstruction, to the present day.
The film is based on conversations with residents representing different generations and districts of Gdynia. Their stories form a multi-voiced tale of the city seen not only through the prism of the most important historical events, but above all everyday life, family memories, places and people.
The film also uses archival materials and contemporary photographs of Gdynia, juxtaposing the memory of the inhabitants with the image of the changing city. “MY GDYNIA 100” is a story about Gdynia created by people — about their attachment to the city, experiences and memory passed on to subsequent generations.
