The starting point of the work on the performance is the situation of the queer community in the Republic of Belarus, where the draft law prohibits the representation of any symbolism related to LGBT+: from clothing and behavior, to works of art. Posting on social media or commenting on Queer topics will face fines, community service and even jail time. Understanding the reasons for the hateful attitude of dictators such as Lukashenko or Putin and their propagandists towards the Queer community is crucial to understanding the ideology of “Russian peace”, which underlies the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation. We argue that the conflict between the LGBT+ community and totalitarian dictatorships is universal, and one of its causes is the specific position of the Queer artist.

The specter of the dictator that we evoke in the play cannot die, it is reborn again and again, taking on new forms, infecting with the dream of collective violence and authoritarian care. Does the specter of a dictator have anything to offer modern Poles? In “My Love” we juxtapose Ghost and Queer together and also listen to what they both have to say. We show how ideology is alluring, how enticing, and at the same time how one penetrates with Queer in a strange love-hate relationship.
Our show does not take the form of political theater or documentary. We try not to make it a spectacle based on the martyrology of Queer people. We care not to represent these people as victims, but, on the contrary, to show their strength. The theme of the show is the power of the weak. And the strength of the weak is also a sense of humor. It's going to be a fun show.
The idea of the play was born during the work of Belarusian-Polish artists in the Dramaturgical Laboratory “Simple Words”, organized by the BY Teatr Foundation at the Cultural Center in Lublin in 2025, under the curatorship of Roman Pawlowski.
