My first immortality. Showing
My First Immortality
It is a spectacle about the body, the image and the desire to stop what is inevitably passing away. The creators invite viewers into the depths of an experience in which photography ceases to be just a record of the moment. It becomes a trace of presence, a shadow of a person, and at the same time a question about the price of immortality promised by the image.
The starting point is Agnes, the protagonist of Milan Kundera's novel “Immortality”, and the work of Franceska Woodman — a photographer and performer who in self-portraits explored the limits of visibility, corporeality and disappearance. From these inspirations is born a stage show dedicated to transparency: the physical property of light, but also the metaphor of human existence.
We are born almost transparent, built mostly of water; over time we accumulate successive layers of memory, experiences and images. Is it still possible to find the original, elusive essence beneath them?
Are the images deceptive?
The show looks at photography with fascination, but also with distrust. The camera captures the face and gesture, but at the same time separates the image from the living body. Each photo saves a moment and at the same time confirms that this moment has already passed. In a world where billions of photographs are made every day, the question of the meaning of looking takes on special importance: Do images help us understand reality or rather obscure it with their own excess? Do they preserve memory or turn life into an endless archive of absences?
Look inside yourself
In the scene of Eros and Tanatos, light and shadow, movement and stillness intertwine in an evocative tale of fragility. However, this is not a closed or literal story. “My First Immortality” does not provide ready-made answers — it creates a space in which to look anew at one's own body, memory, and way of looking. It is an invitation to encounter what is fleeting and at the same time stubbornly persists in the image; with that which disappears, although it leaves light behind.
