What do arias from “Halki” and sweeping saxophone solos have in common? How would the melodies from “The House Songbook” sound in a smoky jazz club? Would the Swordsman from “The Terrible Manor” find himself in a swing accompaniment? A group of outstanding Polish jazzmen decided to prove that these two worlds can be closer to each other than it would seem at first glance. Saxophonist Piotr Baron, trumpeter Robert Majewski, pianist Michał Tokaj, bassist Maciej Adamczak and drummer Łukasz Żyta will take to the workshop the most beautiful melodies created by Stanisław Moniuszka — father of Polish romantic opera and creator of more than two hundred songs. However, they will look at the melodies familiar to generations of Poles with a fresh eye, looking for connections with the jazz tradition close to them, treating them as a starting point for expressive improvisation. What will be the effects of this one-of-a-kind musical experiment? The answer will be heard on November 13 at the Łódź Philharmonic!
