MONODY POLAND × PATRIARCH — LAMENTATIONS 2027

Two traditions. Two languages. Two separate concerts. One story. “Lamentations: Passion” is a one-off and unique musical project prepared especially for 2027 - to be heard on February 28 at the Studio Club in Krakow!

“Lamentations” is a new concert series by PATRIARKH, based on a meeting of artists representing different traditions, languages and ways of thinking about music. Each episode of the series will be a separate story, built on stage by performers from different musical worlds.

The first edition, entitled “Passion”, is created in cooperation with Monodia Polska — a singing group led by Adam Strug.

The event will consist of two separate concerts. Monodia Polska and PATRIARKH will present their own, autonomous parts, preserving their own sound, repertoire and manner of stage expression. However, the two concerts will be combined dramatically and visually, creating a single story and a common path leading through suffering, death and grief.

Monodia Polska will perform passion songs of ecclesiastical and communal provenance and noble poems about death. The singers use natural voice emission and musical scales that predate the commonly used system in major minor today. They will be accompanied by two crank lyres, spinach and fisharmonia.

An important part of the concert will be breaking the traditional division between performers and listeners. The audience will be invited - as it used to be - to sing together, and the lyrics of the songs performed will be displayed on the TV screen.

The second concert will belong to PATRIARKH. Black metal and music rooted in the liturgy of the Eastern Church will become another part of the same narrative — presented in a different language, with different intensity and different means of expression.

“Passion” will not be a joint concert in the traditional sense, but a multimedia show composed of two autonomous parts that together will form a single stage whole.

Each of the cities will also receive its own unique element of the event. The project will be joined by various, specially invited guests, whose participation will brighten up individual concerts. Their names will be announced successively.
