Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Requiem in D minor “without words”

Holy Thursday has been associated with silence, focus and wakefulness for centuries. At 21:00 the Silesian Chamber Orchestra will invite listeners to a musical reflection with the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — a composer who, like few others, could combine the classical perfection of form with the depth of spiritual experience.

The evening will open with Adagio and Fugue in C minor KV 546 — one of the most remarkable works in Mozart's oeuvre. Inspired by the music of Jan Sebastian Bach, the composer created a piece full of dramatic tension, dense polyphony and raw expression. The resulting composition is far from the stereotypical image of Mozart as a creator exclusively full of lightness and grace. Especially the fugue impresses with its mastery of construction, combining the Baroque tradition with the classic clarity of form.

The centerpiece of the evening will be the Requiem “Without Words” — an instrumental version of Mozart's last and most mysterious work. Shrouded in legend, the composition has fascinated listeners for more than two centuries with its history, spiritual depth and extraordinary power of influence. Deprived of liturgical text, it allows us to focus attention on the sound and architecture of the music itself, revealing the richness of melody, harmony and emotion hidden under the famous choral parts.

Although we will not hear the words of the mourning mass, their presence will remain palpable in every phrase. Familiar passages such as Introitus, Dies irae, Lacrimosa or Lux aeterna will sound in a new light, retaining their meditative character and deep spirituality. The intimate sound of the orchestra will allow you to discover the subtle details of the score and look at Mozart's masterpiece from a completely different perspective.

Mozart's works performed without a conductor will create a unique space for concentration and reflection, fitting into the atmosphere of Holy Thursday — an evening of silence, reflection and musical vigil.
