Some country. Maybe Poland. An ordinary day. It seems like an ordinary, insignificant situation. A bench in the square in front of the female high school. Two men. Weirdly dressed. Maybe disguised: why?... who are they?... What are they hiding under their coats? what are they talking about?... what unites them?... What are they hiding from? what are they afraid of?... What are they fleeing from? before the “world”?

About the event

Some country. Maybe Poland. An ordinary day. It seems like an ordinary, insignificant situation. A bench in the square in front of the female high school. Two men. Weirdly dressed. Maybe disguised: why?... who are they?... What are they hiding under their coats? what are they talking about?... what unites them?... What are they hiding from? what are they afraid of?... What are they fleeing from? before the “world”?

And the “world” as it is, everyone sees. We mean little in him. Systems enslave, governments lie, ideologies cynically manipulate, the church is compromised, and employers invariably exploit... Progressive dehumanization and a kind of “selection” creates unnecessary individuals. Today we are, tomorrow we are gone. We land on the “dumpster”, left to ourselves. We have little impact on our lives. Reality painfully verifies and destroys dreams, ideals, passions, principles. It often takes away dignity and humiliates. The terrors of everyday life poison existence and push it to the margins. They arouse fear, frustration, often despair. It's hard to get away from them. It's hard to confuse leads. How to outwit them? How to cheat? After all, we do not want to be surrounded, hurt, rejected. There is one way — let's expose them and laugh! Let's laugh at our pain, disappointment, horror, bitterness. LET'S LAUGH SO AS NOT TO CRY.

Dark Perversions of Everyday Life is a superb contemporary comedy written by Marco Antonio De La Parra, a Chilean writer, playwright and screenwriter. It is one of the most played Ibero-American plays in the world. It has been translated into more than a dozen languages, including English, Greek, Turkish, French, Portuguese, German, Swedish, Italian and many more. This text is like an onion, it has a lot of layers, its meaning can be considered on many levels, full of hidden meanings and allusions, which are amazingly universal even in Polish conditions. The whole is saturated with humor, often rubbing against absurdity. The Łódź production at the Stefan Jaracz Theatre is the Polish premiere. The show includes elements of clowns, burlesque and cabaret. It rolls at a frantic pace, surprising with its perversity and ambiguity. The director of the play is Rafał Sabara, the scenography was designed by Waldemar Zawodziński, and the stars are Mariusz Siudziński and Mariusz Słupiński.

The performance was created as part of the ProScenium Acting Initiatives Scene.
