The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to a meeting around the exhibition “Edward Dwurnik. Pride and Shame” prepared especially for teachers.
At the beginning, we invite you to a tour of the exhibition, and in the second part — to the demonstration workshops. During them we will present selected activities that we carry out on a daily basis with groups in our classes.
The meeting will be ideal both for people who want to visit us with their class in the coming months, and for those who are simply looking for inspiration for their own activities in the area of education through art.
Edward Dwurnik regarded painting as an extraordinary document of social life. The exhibition focuses on his works from the 70s and 80s (among others from the series “Sportsmen” and “Workers”) and recalls the uncompromising attitude of the artist, who consistently rejected the elitism of art. The exhibition shows the history of Polish social emotions — the clash of the title's pride and shame, which are inextricably linked with class advancement and transformation in the second half of the 20th century.
The educational program that accompanies the exhibition is a practical lesson for students to observe everyday life closely and think critically about our recent history. Painting becomes a great starting point for talking about emotions (both social and individual), for building relationships and developing empathy in a peer group, and for a deeper reflection on identity.
