We can want to scream and hug. We can collapse and tap into an overwhelming force. We can be shy and insecure and be on the stage of our lives. The time of either/or is crumbling, and rightly so. My Ugly Clementine is the band that doesn't divide us emotionally, but brings us together.
When in doubt, let the distorted guitar howl too loudly, slide off happily with your finger, in a grunge rock attitude, but not by chance. Rolling Stone says about the band from Vienna: “Consistent post-punk with love for pop melody.” How much fun, sweetness, fragility and harmony can there be in music that is so grumpy, scratchy and loud? My Ugly Clementine harbours the vulnerability and clout of Sophie Lindinger, Mira Lu Kovacs and Nastasja Ronck.
The first show in 2020 sold out after 20 minutes. A lot has happened since its inception: The presentation of the Impala Album of The Year Award, which many major bands and artists such as Adele or Rosalía received at the beginning of their careers. Many concerts at international festivals such as Eurosonic, one of the most important showcase festivals for up-and-coming bands. X nominations, one FM4 and three Amadeus Austrian Music Awards, another album on BMG, one of the world's biggest labels. And now the third album: Apply Autonomy.
When My Ugly Clementine asks if everyone is okay, can see something, has space and something to drink, the distance disappears. The band is looking for contact and space for a different closeness. “We don't think it's normal to be on stage in front of thousands of people.” My Ugly Clementine can remain highly sensitive, perform fully and deliver. Why is that possible? Because they take care.
