The BlackGaze pioneers from MØL strike fissures this fall in VEGA
After two critically acclaimed releases Earth (2019) and Diorama (2021), MØL is back on album updates with DREAMCRUSH (2026), which landed earlier this year.
On DREAMCRUSH, released on the mainstream record label Nuclear Blast, MØL has brought the duality of dreams into focus. It's a theme that resonates on the album's 11 songs, where precisely the lightness of dreams contrasts with the expectations and burden of reality.
Loss and grief are also central themes on the album, but the band stresses in a press release that DREAMCRUSH is not a gloomy album. On the contrary, the release is more about joy and reconciliation.
MØL's sound universe draws inspiration from names like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins and Smashing Pumpkins for a genre best described as blackgaze.
MØL conveys the blackgaze genre by imbuing even their most aggressive musical moments with a distinct melodic sense; hard black metal compositions that redeem themselves in big, alternative hooks with elements of indiepop and shoegaze are something MØL mastered on the album.
DREAMCRUSH was reviewed by GAFFA, who received five sparkling stars, and the music medium gave them the predicate: pioneers. GAFFA wrote in the review:
“From a Danish perspective, MØL is a true pioneer and is not without reason under contract to the world's largest metal record label Nuclear Blast.”
In a press release, MØL describes their live performances as a purification room and a confession ritual, and on October 16, the audience can see for the proceedings when MØL strikes cracks in the gritty October darkness.
