Welcome to the premiere of On the Wave. A guide to the architecture of 1945-1989 in the Pomeranian Voivodeship by Agnieszka Drączkowska-Gradzic and Bartłomiej Ponikiewski. The publication was published by the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning.
The fourth installment of the series “Guides” takes readers to the sea. Follow the sound of the waves, walk through the pine forests and discover with us the post-war architecture of the Coast. The book collects a little more than 100 realizations designed or put into use during the PRL period. They include iconic buildings, including Gdańsk's Hala Olivia and Sopot's Forest Opera, as well as forgotten modernist resorts, hotels and restaurants. The extensive introduction introduces the history of the region and presents the circumstances and context of the creation of selected projects. The whole is enriched by maps, archival and contemporary photographs.
The premiere meeting will take place on November 25 (Wednesday) at 6 pm at the Museum of the City of Gdynia. The discussion will be moderated by Aneta Lehmann.
