“Nature of Love” as part of the SWPS cycle

The protagonist of “The Nature of Love” is Esteban Martínez (played with extraordinary intensity by Javier Bardem), a world-famous Spanish director, appreciated and awarded, and at the same time shrouded in the legend of enfant terrible.

After spending years in America, he returns to his native country to shoot his latest film. The project, implemented in the desert in difficult conditions, is expected to be his most ambitious undertaking. For one of the main roles, Martínez chooses Emilia (Victoria Luengo), his daughter, an actress of the second plan, with whom he has long remained in a cold relationship. He is sure that he fits the character perfectly, but the decision also raises doubts in Emilia herself. Meanwhile, a wave of controversy is growing around the long-awaited return of one of the most important creators of Spanish cinema. In the scorching sun and under the pressure of a restrictive schedule, the source of the distance between father and daughter comes to light, their conflict begins to escalate. Rodrigo Sorogoyen's latest film, poignant, ironic and surprisingly tender, is about the arduous process of making the film, the inevitable clashes of personalities on set, and the fragile balance we try to maintain in our relationships with those we love when past faults catch up with us.
