ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nessa Barrett is an American singer-songwriter whose work often centers around themes of unrequited love, intense relationships and emotional contrasts.

Her latest album “Tough Love” is about sudden, intense romances unfolding in the realities of Los Angeles. The artist herself describes the album as a dark, romantic experience in which each track presents a different version of difficult love.

In terms of sound, “Tough Love” develops the trip-hop foundations present in her previous work, including from the “Aftercare” tour and the EP “Jesus Loves a Primadonna”. This time the cinematic, noir atmospheres were complemented by more strongly exposed guitars.

Barrett's inspirations include Massive Attack, Portishead, Alice in Chains and Fleetwood Mac. On “Tough Love,” he combines these influences with his own distinctive, dark style.

The album closes with the track “Bad Girls Never Die”, which summarizes the combination of fantasy, reality, intense emotion and rock energy present throughout the album.
